Boardman, Ohio – The University of Akron women's golf team earned their first tournament win of the 2021 season, claiming the 15-team Roseann Schwartz Invitational hosted by Youngstown State at Mill Creek Golf Course with a 297-293 - 590 (+14) team score while three Zips placed in the Top 5.

Sophomore Jennifer David (Hudson, Ohio) and senior Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) led the Zips scoring and topped the leaderboard with 146 (+2) performances – YSU's Danae Rugola also fired a 2-over par total. The three players had a playoff for medalist honors and David won the award, while Rugola earned runner-up and Pearce claimed third. David recorded a pair of 73 (+1) rounds and Pearce carded rounds of 71 (-1) and 75 (+3) at the par 72, 6,088-yard North Course.

Also landing in the Top 5 was sophomore and Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio). Hahn registered a pair of 74 (+2) scores for a 148 (+4) tournament total. Rounding out the Zips' scoring were graduate transfer Ke'Asha Phillips (Owensboro, Ky.) and junior Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) with 79-71 – 150 (+6) and 87-79 – 166 (+22) scores, respectively.

In addition, junior Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) and sophomore Riley Dean (Lewis Center, Ohio) competed as individuals and tallied scores of 78-77 - 155 (+11) and 85-79 - 164 (+20).

The Penguins finished runner-up in team scoring, 598 (+22), while Cleveland State placed third overall, 607 (+31).

Akron is scheduled to return to action on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 20-21 at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State at The Players Club at Woodland Trails in Yorktown, Ind. Fans can follow the action via live stats on GoZips.com.
