AKRON, Ohio - Miami senior P Courtney Vierstra tossed a no-hitter to lead the RedHawks (19-6, 9-0 MAC) to an 11-0 decision past the University of Akron women's softball team in the Mid-American Conference series opener on Friday, April 9 at Lee R. Jackson Field.

Vierstra faced the minimum in the contest en route to registering 12 strikeouts for Miami.

The Zips' (3-20, 2-7 MAC) lone baserunner of the game came in their first at-bat as redshirt freshman LF Molly McChesney (Verona, Wis.) was hit on the opening pitch of the inning before being caught stealing for only the second time this season in a team-high 10 attempts.

Akron and Miami continue the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 10. First pitch for the opening contest is set for 1 p.m.
