YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Akron Zips swimming and diving team collected 271 points on the second day of the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships en route to 506 total points and moving into first place overall on Friday at Eastern Michigan's Jones Natatorium.

In the third of eight events, junior Sarah Watson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) led the Zips with her second individual MAC title of the championships in the 100-yard Butterfly as Watson stopped the timer at 52.04 for 20 points. Sophomore Rachel Schiffli (Indianapolis, Ind.) and sophomore Weronika Gorecka (Wroclaw, Poland) added seventh (54.95, 12 pts.) and eighth (54.83, 11 pts.) place finishes in the A-Final, respectively.

The Zips opened the day with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard Medley Relay as junior Lauren Cooper (Dublin, Ohio), junior Andrea Fischer (Oak Grove, Minn.), Schiffli and Watson flew to a 1:38.10 time for 34 points. Akron continued to add to their point total in the second event of the day, recording 41 points in the 400-yard Individual Medley as junior Olivia Gardner (Bromsgrove, England) placed fourth ( 4:19.16) for 15 points, while Fischer and freshman Rachel Sabotin (Columbus, Ind.) posted fifth (4:20.26) and seventh (4:20.78) overall for 14 and 12 points.

In the 200-yard Freestyle, sophomore Victoria Kaufman (Westminster, Md. - 8th, 1:49.82, 11 pts.) and senior Brooke Lamoureux (Victoria, Canada - 10th, 1:50.94, seven pts.), while the 100-yard Breaststroke saw four swimmers score. Senior Paula Garcia (Madrid, Spain) led the group with a runner-up finish for 17 points and a time of 1:01.47 17, while Fischer placed fourth (1:02.49, 15 pts.). Sophomore Sara Bozso (Budapest, Hungary - 5th, 1:02.85, 14 pts.) and freshman Madeline Dyer (Akron, Ohio – 6th, 1:03.01, 13 pts.) completed the Top 10.

Freshman Madelyn Gatrall (Windsor, Canada) paced the 100-yard Backstroke for the Zips with a runner-up finish (53.74, 17 pts.), while Cooper (54.09, 15 pts.) and Gorecka (54.52, 12 pts.) placed fourth and seventh.

Rounding out the second day of competition was the 800-yard Freestyle Relay team of Sabotin, Garcia, Gorecka and Kaufman 7:25.57 32 points
