Eleven Akron Swimmers & Divers Named to CSCCA Scholar All-America Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Eleven University of Akron women's swimming and diving team members earned individual CSCAA Scholar All-America selections, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced.

The 11 Zips were the most from any school from the Mid-American Conference which had 34 honorees total.

Three divers– junior Andrea Bugariu (Shelby Township, Mich.), sophomore Kamryn Goodrick (Chesterland, Ohio). and freshman Paige Kalik (Irwin, Pa.)– received first-team Scholar All-America honors.

Senior Jessica Bonezzi (Wooster, Ohio), sophomore Andrea Fischer (Oak Grove, Minn.), sophomore Olivia Gardner (Bromsgrove, England), freshman Weronika Gorecka (Wroclaw, Poland), junior Paulina Nogaj (Radom, Poland), senior Mackenzie Vargas (Roseville, Calif.), senior Morgan Waggoner (Fremont, Ohio), and sophomore Sarah Watson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) each received Honorable Mention Scholar All-America accolades.

"It's honor for these 11 women to be recognized for their athletic and academic achievements," said head coach Brian Peresie. "This is another example of how our team gets the job done in and out of the pool! It's no easy task accomplishing what they have accomplished. I am very proud to be their coach." Â

To be eligible for first-team honors, a student-athlete must have been an NCAA Championship participant. Honorable Mention honors are based on reaching an individual NCAA 'B' standard or participating in an NCAA diving qualifying event. Academically, the honorees must achieve a minimum of 3.50 GPA.

Last week, Akron was also named to the Scholar All-America Team for the 2020 Spring Semester after recording a team GPA of 3.721. As a team, the Zips have earned the honor of a CSCAA All-American team every semester in the program's history (since the 1998-99 season). Akron was one of 461 institutions that were named to the list.
