NCAA Press Release
INDIANAPOLIS – Four University of Akron women's athletics teams received a Public Recognition Award for academic excellence from the NCAA on Tuesday, based on the most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR).
Four UA programs– women's cross country, women's golf, women's swimming & diving, and women's tennis– posted an APR in the Top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sport over the last four reported academic years (2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2018-19). The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally.
More than 1,300 Division I sports teams were recognized for outstanding performance in the classroom.
The 1,328 teams publicly recognized for high achievement included 857 women's teams and 471 men's or mixed squads.
"Congratulations to the programs earning Public Recognition Awards for their commitment to academic success," NCAA President Mark Emmert said. "The number of perfect scores this year is an indication that schools and student-athletes are setting high bars for achievement, and we are proud that they are continuing to succeed academically as well as athletically."
The scores required to be in the top 10 ranged from 987 to a perfect 1,000, depending on the sport. Earning a perfect APR score were 1,214 teams.
Full APR scores for all teams will be released on May 19.
