AKRON, Ohio – For the first time in school history, The University of Akron Department of Athletics will hold its Zippy Awards online.

Fans, friends, and family members are invited to join the student-athletes, coaches, and staff for the live announcement of the Seventh Annual Zippy Awards, celebrating the achievements of the department's 500-plus student-athletes, on the department's YouTube channel on Sunday, April 26, at 5 p.m.

The 2019-20 award winners will be announced live online.

Individual awards include the Caroline J. Pardee Female Athlete of the Year, the James Horrigan Male Athlete of the Year, the Bob Linton Student-Athletes Awards, the Newcomers of the Year, the 2020 Mid-American Conference Medal of Excellence Awards, and the Clayton Murphy Outstanding Achievement Award.

Team awards to be presented include the Jim Schonover Award for the highest team grade-point average and the Zippy Cup for team community service.

Highlights will include the new class of inductees into the Chi Alpha Sigma, the National Collegiate Athlete Honor Society, which recognizes student-athletes who excel both on and off the field of competition, as well as senior reflections.
