Dawson & Phillips Named Zips’ Student-Athletes of the Week

AKRON, Ohio – Women's basketball's Jordyn Dawson (Huntington, W.Va.) and baseball's Brenton Phillips (Albany, Ga.) have been tabbed the final Zips' Summa Health Student-Athletes of the Week on March 13.
In the last week of the regular season, junior Dawson led women's basketball to a 70-61 win over Bowling Green on Senior Day. The forward averaged 14.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.0 block, and 1.0 steals in two games on the week. The Zips concluded the season in the first round of the Mid-American Conference tournament.
On the season, Dawson averaged 13.4 points per game, finishing second in team scoring. She also averaged 7.2 rebounds per game.
In Akron's four-game series at Marshall, junior Phillips led the Zips at the plate. In game one, the centerfielder tied the game with the Zips' first home run of the year. In game three, Phillips propelled Akron to its first win (7-4) of the season. The centerfielder had two hits– a double and a home run– and two RBI.
On the season, Phillips started all 13 games for Akron. He led the Zips, batting .234, with a team-best 11 hits, including two doubles and two home runs, and a team-best seven RBI.
