AKRON, Ohio — The University of Akron football program, led by second-year head coach Tom Arth, was able to pick up right where it left off following the strong December signing period. In December, the Zips signed 20 prospects to the Class of 2020, which featured talented student-athletes from the top programs in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Georgia. On Wednesday, the Zips were able to ink an additional four prospects to round out the foundational class for Arth and the Akron Zips' program.
Â

This past month has been very good for us. Our coaching staff has worked diligently to sign great players from as many great programs from this area and from around the region to contribute to our program in unique ways."

Being able to sign talented prospects from the region's top programs is a priority for Arth and his staff. For the Class of 2020, he was able to make tremendous strides towards achieving that goal. Eighteen student-athletes are from the state of Ohio, six are from Pennsylvania, and four are from Michigan.
Â
Having championship pedigree is another core principle that Arth looks for in the recruiting process. Of the 24 signees, six were part of championship teams. Spring signee DB DiMarco Johnson (Irmo, S.C.) was a part of four state championship teams at Dutch Fork HS.
