Shah Lands in Top 20, Akron Finishes Eighth at Nittany Lion Invitational

State College, Pa. – Sophomore Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) fired a final round 73 (+1) en route to a 17th place finish at the Nittany Lion Invitational while leading the Akron women's golf team to an eighth place finish on Sunday afternoon.

Shah carded consecutive 1-over par rounds mixed with an opening round 78 (+6) for a 224 (+8) tournament total. Shah led the Zips' scoring as Akron registered a 311-303-309 – 923 (+59).

Sophomore Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) and freshman Jennifer David (Hudson, Ohio) finished the 54-hole event with a pair of 231 (+15) totals. Pikunas used rounds of 79 (+7), 74 (+2), and 78 (+6) while David completed her first collegiate tournament with 75 (+3), 79 (+7) and 77 (+5). Both, Pikunas and David finished tied for 32nd overall.

Rounding out Akron's scoring were freshman Riley Dean (Lewis Center, Ohio) and junior Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio). Dean posted a 79-77-81 – 237 (+21) ledger and tied for 50th place while Pearce recorded 81-82-82 – 245 (+29) scores for a 66th place stalemate.

Pennsylvania won the team title by eight strokes with a 292-288-288 – 868 (+4) tournament total. Host Penn State jumped one spot, finishing runner-up with an 876 (+12) and edging Seton Hallby two strokes. Â

There was a three-way tie for individual medalist honors as Madeline Sager (Seton Hall), Sarah Fouratt (Seton Hall) and Samantha Vodry (High Point) all notched 2-under par performances.

The Zips are scheduled to be back in action on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27-29, at the Bettie Lou Evans Invite in Lexington, Ky. Kentucky hosts the 54-hole event at their Big Blue Golf Course.
