AUSTIN, Texas – University of Akron senior Curtis Richardson (Blacklick, Ohio) capped his stellar Zips' career with a 20th-place performance surpassing 6-10.75 (2.10m) in the men's high jump to earn honorable mention All-America honors and headline Akron's performances on the third day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, June 7.
It marked the second All-America citation in the decorated Akron career for Richardson, who earned second-team All-America accolades after placing 13th in the high jump at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., with a mark of 6-10.25 (2.09m).
Richardson opened his competition clearing the initial bar of 6-10.75 (2.10m) on his first attempt. He proved unsuccessful on bettering the second bar of 7-0.50 (2.15m) on each of his three attempts.
The Zips are tied for 18th in the women's team competition with four points, while the men concluded the meet tied for 61st place with one point as Akron bettered 18 Power-Five schools in the final standings.
By virtue of senior Lucy Bryan's (Bristol, England) fifth-place performance in the women's pole vault on Thursday, Akron extended its streak of having scored every year in the women's competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships since 2013. The Akron men extended its streak to seven consecutive years as well on Wednesday with an eighth-place effort from senior Jordan Latimer (Huber Heights, Ohio) in the men's long jump.
The meet welcomes the top-12 qualifiers (24 in all) from both the NCAA East and West Preliminary Rounds to Mike A. Myers Stadium for the semifinal and championship rounds of competition.
Coverage of the meet will be available on ESPN2 from 6:30-9 p.m. ET on Saturday.
In addition, live field event coverage will be provided on ESPN3 each of the four days of competition.
The final day of the championship kicks off with the women's long jump for the heptathlon at 2:30 p.m. ET. The women's high jump starts field events at 6 p.m. ET, before the final of the women's 4x100 relay is slated to begin at 6:32 p.m. ET. The women's 4x400 relay final will conclude the women's portion of the championship at 8:51 p.m. ET.
Senior Abigale Wilson (Carrollton, Ohio) will be Akron's last competitor in the championships taking part in the second flight of the women's discus which commences at 6:05 p.m. ET on Saturday. She posted the second-best qualifying mark at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on May 24 with a school- and league-record mark of 200-2 (61.02m).
