Three-year team captain Geier earned the 2019 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, the second time in her collegiate career she took home the MAC honor. She also earned POY honors in 2017. Geier was also a 2019 first-team All-MAC selection. She finished her senior season undefeated against all MAC opponents, playing the No. 1 position.
This season Geier went 29-4 in singles action and 21-1 in spring action, all at the No. 1 spot. Geier finished her collegiate career ranked No. 2 in career singles wins with 106 and combination singles/doubles wins with 177, while her 71 doubles victories rank No. 11 on the career chart. Geier was named Akron's Most Valuable Player at the team's annual banquet.
Geier is a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and a two-time Academic All-MAC honoree. Geier earned a bachelor's degree in sport management in 2018. She is pursuing an M.B.A. and will serve as the graduate assistant coach for the team next season.
"I'm so proud of Sophia for winning this award, she absolutely deserves it!" said head coach Brandon Padgett. "We certainly feel that she should be playing in the national individual tournament, but that unfortunately didn't happen for her, but this is a nice way to cap off her amazing career here at Akron."
