AKRON, Ohio— University of Akron football added another Power 5 opponent to its future non-conference schedule on Wednesday.

The Zips will visit South Carolina on Sept. 21, 2024, for a game at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C.

"This past year we had the opportunity to play in Columbia and experience one of the classic venues in the SEC," said UA Director of Athletics Larry Williams. "Athletic Director Ray Tanner and his entire staff really demonstrated that Southern hospitality. So impressed were we that we seized the chance to provide that same experience to a new cohort of Zip student-athletes, some of whom will likely be from a reasonable proximity to Columbia."

Akron and South Carolina have only met once on the gridiron. On December 1, 2018, the Gamecocks captured a 28-3 victory in the regular-season finale. The game replaced UA's Sept. 1 contest at Nebraska, which was canceled due to lightning, and USC's Sept. 15 contest against Marshall, which was canceled due to Hurricane Florence.

Returning 51 letterwinners, Akron opens the 2019 season at Illinois on August 31. The home opener is slated for Sept. 7 against UAB.

Season ticket plans—which include a ticket to all six home games as well as a parking pass—can be purchased now to lock in the 2018 pricing for the 2019 season, starting at only $60 each. Renewals (for current season ticket holders) and new seats are now available for purchase by calling or texting 888-99-AKRON (25766) or visiting The C.P. and Cornelia S. Chima Athletics Ticket Office at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field (located at 375 E. Exchange Street, near Gate 1 at the southwest corner of the venue, at the corner of E. Exchange and S. Union streets) during business hours (Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
