Latimer Directs Zips’ Performances on Opening Night of Tyson Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Akron track and field senior Jordan Latimer (Huber Heights, Ohio) garnered a second-place performance in the men's long jump invitational to direct the Zips' efforts on the opening night of the Tyson Invitational hosted by Arkansas on Friday, Feb. 8.
Latimer saved his best effort for his final jump soaring 25-2 (7.67m) to finish second in the event, while senior Terrell McClain (Youngstown, Ohio) registered a mark of 24-11.75 (7.61m) to place fourth.
Senior Matt Ludwig (Chardon, Ohio) recorded a mark of 18-1.75 (5.53m) to finish fifth in the men's pole vault invitational.
Collecting third- and fifth-place efforts in the men's collegiate pole vault with marks of 16-6 (5.03m) and 16-0 (4.88m), respectively, was senior Cole Wigal (Belpre, Ohio) and junior Matt Keim (Bolivar, Ohio).
Redshirt sophomore Hesham Eldesouky (Nasr City, Egypt) jumped 23-5.25 (7.14m) to place eighth in the men's collegiate long jump.
Senior Dara Perry (Akron, Ohio) posted a qualifying time of 8.59 in the women's 60-meter hurdles to win her heat and advance to the preliminary round, where she crossed the line in 8.60.
Redshirt sophomore Patrick Kimball (Pittsburgh, Pa.) turned in a time of 8.08 in the qualifying round of the men's 60-meter hurdles, before clocking a time of 8.12 in the preliminary round.
Final-day competition at the Tyson Invitational continues on Saturday, Feb. 9, starting with the women's collegiate pole vault at 11:30 a.m. ET before the women's collegiate 200 meters gets underway at 2 p.m. ET.
The balance of the Akron squad will take part in the Doug Raymond Invitational hosted by Kent State on Saturday, Feb. 9. The meet will begin with the women's weight throw at noon before the women's 5,000 meters kicks off action on the track at 1 p.m. The men's 4x400 relay will conclude the day's festivities at approximately 6:30 p.m.
