Watson and 200 Free Relay Team Swim Record-Breaking Times at Ohio State Winter Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 23-ranked University of Akron women's swimming and diving team sent a select few swimmers to compete at the Ohio State Winter Invitational this weekend at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio. The team turned in a successful first day, breaking program and Mid-American Conference records in two different events.
In the 100 butterfly, freshman Sarah Watson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) swam to a victory in an NCAA "B" cut and personal best time of 52.21. Additionally, her time set a new program and MAC record, replacing sophomore Paulina Nogaj's (Radom, Poland) time of 52.32. Watson's time is currently tied for 19th in the nation.
Nogaj finished second in the 100 butterfly, also recording a "B" cut time of 52.58.
The 200 freestyle relay team of senior Sadie Fazekas (Windsor, Ontario), freshman Sofia Henell (Linkoping, Sweden), senior Ragen Engel (Springfield, Ohio) and junior Ellie Nebraska (Delaware, Ohio) touched the wall first in a record-breaking time of 1:29.35. The time fell under the NCAA provisional time standard, while also breaking Akron's program record and the MAC record.
Action at the Ohio State Winter Invitational continues on Sunday, Feb. 17, with prelims starting at 11 a.m. and finals slated to begin at 4 p.m.
