AKRON, Ohio – In its final tune-up before next weekend's Mid-American Conference Track and Field Championships, the University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams will host the Zips Invitational this Friday, Feb. 15, at the Stile Athletics Field House.
UP NEXT: Akron will welcome competitors from Buffalo and Youngstown State. The first of 28 events get underway with the women's pole vault at 6 p.m. and runs through the men's and women's 4x400 relays that are scheduled to begin at 9:15 p.m.
Tickets are available at the door for $10 (cash only). Akron students with valid ID will be admitted free of charge. All fans should enter through the Akron student recreation center main entrance.

THIS WEEK IN AKRON TRACK AND FIELD WITH HEAD COACH DENNIS MITCHELL:
NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron men's track and field squad stands at No. 24 in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Division I Men's Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index released this week.
The Zips' men's squad is rated sixth in the most-current Great Lakes Regional ratings, while the women's team checks in at No. 9.
The Zips are the top-rated Mid-American Conference team ranked in the men's national poll.
In the Event Squad rankings released on Feb. 11, Akron is ranked second nationally in the women's pole vault and among the top 15 in four different events.
Akron is rated fourth in the men's pole vault and in the men's long jump and eighth in the men's high jump. Additionally, the Zips are ranked 17th in the women's triple jump.
ZIPS AMONG NATION'S BEST IN LATEST TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron currently has seven student-athletes ranked in the top-25 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS), including senior Matt Ludwig (Chardon, Ohio), who is second in the nation in the men's pole vault (19-1.50/5.83m).
Also rated among the top-25 is senior Jordan Latimer (Huber Heights, Ohio) (sixth in men's long jump – 26-0.25/7.93m), junior Lucy Bryan (Bristol, England) (seventh in women's pole vault – 14-4.50/4.38m), and seniors Terrell McClain (Youngstown, Ohio) (13th in men's long jump – 25-7.75/7.80m), Mackenzie Andrews (Toowoomba, Australia) (15th in the women's mile – 4:35.63), Eboni Hall (Pickerington, Ohio) (23rd in women's pole vault – 13-9.25/4.20m) and Curtis Richardson (Blacklick, Ohio) (23rd in the men's high jump – 7-1.50/2.17m).
The Akron men's and women's teams are ranked No. 11 and No. 17, respectively, in the final Collegiate Indoor Dual Meet Rankings as compiled by Jesse Squire for Track and Field News.
CRACKING THE ALL-TIME TOP-FIVE PERFORMANCES: Mackenzie Andrews added another school record to the Zips' accolades a week ago as part of a pair of overall top-five program marks.
Andrews ran a time of 4:35.63 in the women's mile at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University of Feb. 8 to break her own school-record indoor mark of 4:40.13.
Equally impressive was redshirt sophomore Hesham Eldesouky (Nasr City, Egpyt), who turned in the third-best performance in indoor program history in the men's triple jump on Feb. 9, registering a mark of 50-6.75 (15.41m).
A WEEK AGO: Lucy Bryan eclipsed 14-2.50 (4.33m) en route to earning the top-collegiate finish in the women's pole vault invitational on the final day of the Tyson Invitational hosted by Arkansas on Feb. 9, to headline the Zips' performances.
Hesham Eldesouky earned a fourth-place showing in the men's triple jump with a mark of 50-6.75 (15.41m), the third-best performance in men's indoor program history.
Freshman Nuh Andu (Doha, Qatar) placed second in the men's high jump registering a mark of 6-11.50 (2.12m), while in the men's invitational high jump, Curtis Richardson surpassed 6-11.50 (2.12m) to place seventh.
Jordan Latimer garnered a second-place performance in the men's long jump invitational saving his best effort for his final jump soaring 25-2 (7.67m), while Terrell McClain registered a mark of 24-11.75 (7.61m) to place fourth.
Matt Ludwig recorded a mark of 18-1.75 (5.53m) to finish fifth in the men's pole vault invitational.
Collecting third- and fifth-place efforts in the men's collegiate pole vault with marks of 16-6 (5.03m) and 16-0 (4.88m), respectively, was senior Cole Wigal (Belpre, Ohio) and junior Matt Keim (Bolivar, Ohio).
Senior Dara Perry (Akron, Ohio) posted a qualifying time of 8.59 in the women's 60-meter hurdles to win her heat and advance to the preliminary round, where she crossed the line in 8.60.
Redshirt sophomore Patrick Kimball (Pittsburgh, Pa.) turned in a time of 8.08 in the qualifying round of the men's 60-meter hurdles, before clocking a time of 8.12 in the preliminary round.
Akron finished the competition at the Doug Raymond Invitational hosted by Kent State on Feb. 9, with four first-place finishes as part of 16 overall top-five performances on the day.
Freshman Amir Willis (Cincinnati, Ohio) captured the men's 400 meters in a career-best indoor time of 48.60, while crossing the line in a career-best indoor time of 21.50 to finish third in the 200 meters.
Redshirt junior Tevin Brown (Toledo, Ohio) ran a career-best indoor time of 8:21.36 to win the men's 3,000 meters.
Junior Haley Hess (Curtice, Ohio) took the title in the women's 800 meters registering a time of 2:13.29.
Senior Ashley Murray (Seville, Ohio) logged a career-best indoor time of 17:36.75 to win the women's 5,000 meters.
Sophomore Andre Bollam-Godbott (Brunswick, Ohio) recorded a career-best time of 4:10.74 to finish second in the men's mile, while senior Ben Olewiler (Shiloh, Ohio) placed second in the men's high jump with a mark of 6-6.25 (1.99m).
Redshirt junior Tyler Fraker (Delta, Ohio) equaled his highest career indoor jump eclipsing 16-6.75 (5.05m) to earn a runner-up effort in the men's pole vault.
A YEAR AGO: Taron Slone ran the fourth-fastest time in indoor program history winning the men's 200 meters in a career-best time of 21.34 to direct the efforts for Akron at the Zips Invitational on Feb. 16, 2018, at the Stile Athletics Field House.
Matt Ludwig surpassed 18-3.75 (5.58m) to triumph in the men's pole vault to remain unbeaten against collegiate competition. Garnering a second-place finish with a mark of 16-6 (5.03m) was Tyler Fraker.
Lucy Bryan eclipsed 14-0.75 (4.29m) to win the women's pole vault.
Sophomore Lindsey Scarton (Berea, Ohio) opened the evening for the Zips winning the women's mile crossing the line in 5:03.53.
Jamir Coleman captured the men's long jump with a mark of 23-2.50 (7.07m), while redshirt junior Malik Hudson (Cleveland, Ohio) placed second with a jump of 22-5.75 (6.85m).
Ariadna Ramos Gandia finished first in the women's long jump with a leap of 18-7 (5.66m).
Registering a time of 8.19 to place second in the men's 60-meter hurdles was redshirt junior Preston Fillman (Hanoverton, Ohio).
Senior Olivia Snyder (Navarre, Ohio) captured the women's weight throw with a mark of 58-0 (17.68m), while senior Abigale Wilson (Carrollton, Ohio) placed second in the women's shot put with a mark of 50-0.50 (15.25m).
Senior Milton Greer (Copley, Ohio) ran a time of 49.08 en route to finishing second in the men's 400 meters, while junior Bailey Lack (Brunswick, Ohio) placed second in the women's 400 meters in 57.67.
Running a person-best time of 2:13.08 to take the women's 800 meters was Haley Hess.
Phil Jagers and senior Maurice Harris (Toledo, Ohio) placed first and second, respectively, in the men's weight throw with marks of 63-4 (19.30m) and 57-6 (17.53m). Harris also won the men's shot put with a mark of 55-8.25 (16.97m).
Senior Elizabeth Mosier (Austintown, Ohio) claimed the women's 3,000 meters in 10:34.04, while Garrett Crichlow registered a second-place performance in the men's 3,000 meters in a time of 8:42.70.
ANDREWS NAMED MAC WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: University of Akron track and field senior Mackenzie Andrews was recognized by the Mid-American Conference as its Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday, Feb. 12.
