AKRON, Ohio– University of Akron redshirt senior defensive end Jamal Davis II (Canton, Ohio) announced via Twitter that he has been invited to the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine.
More than 300 prospects will participate in the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Feb. 26 to March 4 in their quest to achieve their NFL dreams. Executives, coaches, and personnel from all 32 NFL teams will be on hand to evaluate the nation's top college football players eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft (April 25-27).
A 2018 first-team All-Mid-American Conference selection by Phil Steele and a second-team All-MAC honoree from the coaches, Davis was the Zips' top lineman and third overall with 82 tackles, a team-best 16.0 TFL for a loss of 72 yards, a team-best six break-ups, a team-best six hurries, 4.0 sacks, and a forced fumble. The two-year starter had a season-high 12 tackles against Northern Illinois. Against Central Michigan, he had 1.5 sacks for a loss of 10 yards. Davis was a preseason first-team All-MAC selection by Athlon Sports.
"Man, when I first got the news, I literally just dropped on my knees and thanked God," Davis told the Canton Repository. "Because getting invited is not an easy task to complete. It's hard. I've been through so much in my life good and bad, but at the end of the day, I kept faith and trust in my ability. Just wanted to show the world these last two seasons that I'm one of the best in the country. Now I get to prove that on a national stage."
The last Zip to earn a combine invitation was wide receiver Jerome Lane (Akron, Ohio) in 2017.
