Vasilescu Completes Singles Play at Oracle/ITA Masters

MALIBU, Calif. – University of Akron sophomore Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany) concluded singles play at the 2018 Oracle/ITA Masters on Friday at Pepperdine University.

Vasilescu fell to Florida Gulf Coast's Maja Ornberg, 6-3, 7-5.

"Miruna played a much better match today, but to win at this level consistently she has to learn to play more freely," head coach Brandon Padgett said. "Mistakes will happen; it's expected, but she needs to be more willing to allow those mistakes to happen throughout the course of a match and not dwell on them. She's such a talented player and amazing young woman. She just has to see and believe what we as coaches see and know to be true."

The Zips continue with day 2 of their own Akron Shootout on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 10 a.m. with Cleveland State, Louisville, and Youngstown State at the outdoor tennis courts on campus.  Â
