Rebecca D. Considine Benefit Raises Funds for Women’s Tennis Program

AKRON, Ohio – The first Rebecca D. Considine Benefit for the University of Akron women's tennis team was a success!
Held on Sept. 1 at the Portage Country Club, the fundraising event featured a youth clinic, conducted by six of the finest teaching pros from areas clubs and assisted by the Zips' players. The team members also played doubles matches against attendees. During the social mixer, raffle tickets and silent auction items helped boost the fundraising efforts.
"We could not be happier with how great the first Rebecca D. Considine fundraiser event went," head coach Brandon Padgett said. "Having such an amazing person and family support our team in such a way shows not only a love for our team, but also a love for the game of tennis."
As a student in 1968, Considine helped organize a women's tennis club at UA which evolved into the NCAA Division I women's tennis program.
"So many people had a hand in making this event successful, but Becky Considine, Barb Beattie, Kirstin Weaver, Christian Cook, and Tim Faix provided much needed advice, assistance, and support as we put this event together. Having large donations made to the event, some without fanfare, was overwhelming and set the tone for what this event meant. Additionally, all of the companies that were willing to let me talk with them and explain the needs that we have as a team, donated such a significant amount of unbelievable items to our raffle auction and silent auction, making the night a true success."
All proceeds from the event will fund the purchase of a new van for the tennis team.
