LONG BEACH, Calif. – The University of Akron redshirt sophomore Ian Behm (Volant, Pa.) garnered a mark of 223-1 (68.01m) in the men's javelin to direct the Zips' efforts on the opening day of the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State on Friday, April 20.

Behm finished 11th in the event, while junior Rodrigo Iglesias (Logrono, Spain) and sophomore Brandon Hochbein (Sarver, Pa.) added marks of 213-1 (64.94m) and 159-8 (48.66m), respectively.

Redshirt freshman Emily Taylor (Mount Perry, Ohio) registered a career-best mark of 163-11 (49.96m) in the women's hammer.

Competition continues at the Beach Invitational on Saturday, April 21, starting at 11:30 a.m. ET.
