Four Zips in Top 25, Pikunas Sinks Hole-in-One at Kingsmill Resort Intercollegiate

Williamsburg, Va. – The Akron Zips women's golf team has four players ranking in the Top 25 en route to a 600 (+24) team tally and a hole-in-one by freshman Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) after 36 holes of the Kingsmill Resort Intercollegiate on Monday.
Pikunas led the Zips' scoring at the par-72, 6,025-yard River Course at Kingsmill Resort. Pikunas is currently in a five-way stalemate for second place after posting rounds of 70 (-2) and 76 (+4) for a 146 (+2) two-round total. Pikunas opened the day with a 2-under par performance that included a hole-in-one on hole No. 5, a 157-yard par-3. In addition, Pikunas dropped a hole-in-one during Sunday's practice round on hole No. 2, a 150-yard par-3. Pikunas is second in par-3 scoring (-1) with a 2.88 average. She has buried 25 pars and an eagle.
Junior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) follows with a 149 (+5) tournament total, ranking tied for eighth after rounds of 75 (+3) and 74 (+2). Nicholson has collected 23 pars and four birdies in 36 holes of play. Nicholson and sophomore Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) are tied for second in par-5 scoring, averaging 4.63 strokes and 3-under for the tournament.
Finishing third in team scoring and ranking inside the Top 15 is senior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.). Her carded 21 pars and is averaging 4.88 in par-5 scoring for a 1-under tournament total. She opened with a 79 (+7) score and followed with an even-par 72 for an 11th place tie at 151 (+7).
Wentworth currently ranks tied for 24th overall with a 78-77 – 155 (+11) total. She recorded a second-best seven birdies on the day, while freshman Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) rounds out the Zips' scoring with an 84-76 – 160 (+16) ledger.
Richmond currently leads the team by three-strokes with a 303-294 – 597 (+21) total. Akron follows closely in second place after rounds of 302 (+14) and 298 (+10). Richmond's Sophie DiPetrillo leads the individual race with a 75-70 – 145 (+1) score.
Tuesday's final round is scheduled for an 8:30 shotgun start. Live scoring is not available for this event.
