Akron Moves Into Third Place at the Bradley Spring Invitational at Brookhaven

Farmers Branch, Texas – The Akron Zips women's golf team will enter the final round of the Bradley Spring Break Invitational one stroke off the lead after carding a 612 (+28) on Monday at the par 73, 6,187-yard Brookhaven Country Club.
The Zips finished the initial 18-hole round with a 315 (+23) score, completing round one in sixth place. In round two, Akron responded with the lowest team score of the day, carding a 5-over par 297.
The Zips climbed three spots during the second round, moving from a sixth-place tie to sole possession of third place and one stroke behind a first place stalemate between Cincinnati and Houston Baptist, 611 (+27). The Zips are nine strokes ahead of fourth place Northern Illinois, 621 (+37).
UA freshman Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) currently leads the individual race with a 1-over par 147 total. Pikunas opened the tournament with a 4-over tally after nine holes. She fired back with a 1-under effort on the final nine to bring her first 18-hole score to a 3-over 76.
Pikunas carried the momentum into the second 18-hole round, recording six birdies en route to a 2-under 71 total. As a result, Pikunas moved from a fifth-place tie to the top of the leaderboard. Pikunas leads the field by one stroke.
Senior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.) followed in scoring for the Zips and currently ranks inside the Top 10 with a 153 (+7). Her used rounds of 79 (+6) and 74 (+1) to finish in a six-way tie for eighth place.
Finishing third in scoring for Akron and 23rd overall were junior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) and freshman Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio). Both, Nicholson and Pearce fired 156 (+10) scores, but arrived in different ways. Nicholson used rounds of 81 (+8) and 75 (+2), while Pearce carded rounds of 79 (+6) and 77 (+4).
Rounding out the Zips starting five was sophomore Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) with a 176 (+30) score.
The final round of the Bradley Spring Invitational is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET with a shotgun start. The Zips will open the round on holes 1-4.
