Lexington, Ky. – Senior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) led the Akron Zips women's golf team through the first round of the 29th annual Bettie Lou Evans Invitational hosted by Kentucky on Friday.

Nicholson started the round on hole No. 10 and opened the tournament on a high note with two par scores and a birdie. Nicholson's score went back to even-par with two even scores and a bogey. She completed the first nine holes at 3-over par, but did not get discouraged.

On the final nine holes of the round (1-9), Nicholson used the momentum from four consecutive pars to register her third birdie of the day. Before the round ended, she made another birdie with two pars. Nicholson is currently tied for 20th on the player leaderboard with a 74 (+2) score.

As a team, the Zips carded a 308 (+20) total. Junior Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) followed Nicholson in scoring for the Zips with a 77 (+5) score, while sophomore Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) posted a 78 (+6) ledger. Rounding out the Akron's scorecard was senior Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio) and freshman Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) with 79 (+7) and 81 (+9) scores.

Akron is scheduled to take the course at 10:21 a.m. on the 10th tee with Shah leading the way followed by Dull (10:30), Pearce (10:39), Wentworth (10:48) and Nicholson (10:57).
