Zips Claim Doubles Win at Martha Thorn Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The University of Akron women's tennis team claimed a win in doubles action on the second day of competition at the West Virginia's Martha Thorn Invitational on Saturday.

Senior Luisa Echeverry (Cali Colombia) paired with freshman Alexis Steer (Powell, Ohio) to defeat host West Virginia's Abigail Rosiello and Kirsten White, 6-2.

In singles action, UA dropped three matches to Duquesne.

"Today was definitely better in terms of our overall play," said Akron assistant coach Shannon Newnes. "I think everyone was happier with how they played today, and there was definitely an overall improvement in every aspect of our game. Overall, we were super attentive and are definitely doing the right things to get better. Our doubles were once again a highlight, and we did everything we needed to get the job done."

Action concludes on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 8 a.m. at the Summit Tennis Academy.
