AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team travels to Wright State for the Raider Invitational on Sept. 29-30 at the South Regency Tennis Center.
Action begins on Friday, Sept. 29, at 8 a.m. Participating teams include Akron, Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Dayton, IUPUI, Northern Kentucky, Youngstown State, and host Wright State.
"We are excited to get back on court and see if what we've been working on pays off," Akron head coach Brandon Padgett said. "Development is always the key to fall match play, and we have seen outstanding progress already from each player."
The Zips opened its fall slate last weekend at home with the Akron Shootout. Freshman Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany) went a perfect 3-0 at No. 3 singles in her collegiate debut. Junior Luisa Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) also went a perfect 3-0 singles action, competing at No. 6.
In doubles action, senior captain Carli Knezevich (Austin, Texas) and freshman Madison Wolfe (Monument, Colo.) are the top pair at No. 1.
The cross-state trip is also a homecoming for the Zips' only player from Ohio– junior Waverly Wituski (Springboro, Ohio).
"It is always great to play near the home of a current player, and that is what we get to do this weekend, with Waverly being from the Dayton area," Padgett added. "Her family is always beyond generous with their time and their home, and we cannot thank them enough!"
