MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK RELEASE
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference released its weekly MAC Track and Field Athletes of the Week recipients on Tuesday, Feb. 7, and University of Akron senior Miles Baldwin (Cincinnati, Ohio), junior Jackie Siefring (Covington, Ohio) and sophomore Matt Ludwig (Chardon, Ohio) were among those honored.
Baldwin was tabbed as the MAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week after placing second for the Zips in the men's 400 meters at the Akron Invitational on Feb. 4, with a time of 47.14, the No. 26 time nationally. He also ran the anchor leg of the winning 4x400 relay.
Siefring garnered MAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week recognition on the strength of registering the fifth-best score in the country in 2017 en route to winning the pentathlon with a five-event cumulative total of 4,204 at the Akron Invitational on Feb. 3. Additionally, she capped the Akron Invitational for the Zips anchoring the winning women's 4x400 relay squad.
Taking home MAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week laurels for the second consecutive week was Ludwig, who captured the men's pole vault at the Akron Invitational on Feb. 4, with a career-best clearance of 18-0.50 (5.50m). The mark represented the seventh-highest jump in the country this season.
The accolades represents the sixth, seventh and eighth individual award, respectively, for a Zip in 2017.
The Zips return to competition this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11, as the squad will compete at the Spire Invitational in Geneva, Ohio, and the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
