Lexington, Ky. – The Akron Zips women's golf team fired a 311 (+23) first round total at the 28^th annual Bettie Lou Evans Invitational hosted by Kentucky on Monday.

Akron currently stands at 15^th overall as freshman Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) and junior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) led the scoring. Pikunas turned in a 73 (+1) scorecard that included 12 pars, three birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey en route to a 17^th overall ranking.

Meanwhile, Nicholson is ranked 23^rd overall after a 74 (+2) performance. Nicholson carded 14 pars, three bogeys, and a birdie. Senior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.) followed with a 79 (+5) effort, while freshman Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) and senior Mallory Ethceberry (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) rounded out the scoring with 85 (+13) and 89 (+17) performances, respectively.

Unfortunately, due to inclement weather moving into the region on Sunday, the three-day event has been shortened to two days. The 16-team field will play 36 holes on Saturday to complete the 54-hole event. Akron is scheduled to start the day on holes No. 12-14.
