Lexington, Ky. – The Akron Zips women's golf team fired a 311 (+23) first round total at the 28th annual Bettie Lou Evans Invitational hosted by Kentucky on Monday.
Akron currently stands at 15th overall as freshman Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) and junior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) led the scoring. Pikunas turned in a 73 (+1) scorecard that included 12 pars, three birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey en route to a 17th overall ranking.
Meanwhile, Nicholson is ranked 23rd overall after a 74 (+2) performance. Nicholson carded 14 pars, three bogeys, and a birdie. Senior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.) followed with a 79 (+5) effort, while freshman Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) and senior Mallory Ethceberry (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) rounded out the scoring with 85 (+13) and 89 (+17) performances, respectively.
Unfortunately, due to inclement weather moving into the region on Sunday, the three-day event has been shortened to two days. The 16-team field will play 36 holes on Saturday to complete the 54-hole event. Akron is scheduled to start the day on holes No. 12-14. The shotgun start is set to begin at xxx a.m. Fans can follow the action via GolfStat Live Scoring.
