UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - University of Akron junior Terrell McClain (Youngstown, Ohio) continued his impressive start to the indoor campaign capturing the men's long jump with a mark of 25-2.50 (7.68) to direct the efforts of the Zips' men's and women's track and field squads on the opening night of the Penn State National on Friday, Jan. 27.
Senior Daziah Green (Canton, Ohio) equaled the fifth-fastest time in indoor program history crossing the line second in 7.53 in the finals of the women's 60 meters.
Junior Kwadarrius Smith (Orlando, Fla.) matched his own career-best indoor time of 6.75 in the finals of the 60 meters en route to placing second. The time also equaled the fourth-fastest effort in indoor program history.
Sophomore Matt Ludwig (Chardon, Ohio) registered the fifth-best jump (17-9/5.41m) in program history en route to placing second in the men's pole vault invitational. Senior Matt Rowland (Bellevue, Ohio) eclipsed 17-1 (5.21m) to finish third.
Senior Daniella Johnson (Gahanna, Ohio) finished third in the 60 meters with a time of 7.62 after placing fourth in the long jump with a mark of 18-8 (5.69m).
Sophomore Dara Perry (Akron, Ohio) registered a fourth-place showing in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.62, while redshirt sophomore Jordan Latimer (Huber Heights, Ohio) placed third in the men's long jump with a leap of 24-5 (7.44m).
Competition resumes on Saturday, Jan. 28, with the finals of the women's 400 meters at 10:30 a.m.
