AKRON, Ohio – Sophomore Sadie Fazekas (Windsor, Ontario) was named the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week as announced by league officials on Thursday morning.
Fazekas was also honored as the MAC Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming on Tuesday.
In Akron's 175-87 dual meet win over Toledo on Saturday, Fazekas notched two individual first-place finishes and a pair of top finishes in relay events.
The Canadian set a pool record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.09, which broke the previous record of 55.18 that had been set by Michigan's Anne Weibacher in 2003. Fazekas' other victory on the afternoon came in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23:36.
The Zips also notched a pair of victories in the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay on Saturday with Fazekas swimming a leg in both events. The winning time of 1:34.25 in the 200 freestyle set a new pool record at the UT Rec Center.
This marks the first such award of Fazekas' career.
Akron will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 20, with a head-to-head dual meet at Miami (Ohio) slated for 3 p.m.
