AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron senior high jumper Claudia Garcia Jou (Barcelona, Spain) has been selected to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-Districtâ„¢ Women's Track and Field Team.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).
Majoring in exercise science/exercise physiology, Garcia Jou maintains a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the graduate program at Akron.
Garcia Jou has won five of the seven meets she was competed in during the spring campaign, including capturing the Mid-American Conference title in the high jump on May 14 with a mark of 5-9.25 (1.76m).
She returns to competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla., on Friday, May 27, eying her fourth consecutive berth in the NCAA Track and Field Championship, to be contested June 8-11 in Eugene, Ore.
Garcia Jou registered a season-high clearance of 6-1.50 (1.87M) to win high jump at LSU Alumni Invitational before eclipsing 5-11.25 (1.81m) to take home title at Drake Relays. Additionally, she finished second at Texas Relays with jump of 6-1.25 (1.86m).
Garcia Jou now moves to the national ballot for consideration for CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades. The national teams will be unveiled on June 24.
