AUSTIN, Texas - Junior Phil Jagers (Solon, Ohio) registered the second-best throw (201-2/61.33m) in the country this spring in the discus en route to shattering his own school record to spark the performances of the University of Akron track and field team on the third day of the Texas Relays on Friday, April 1.
Jagers' mark represented the top throw by a collegian in the competition and allowed him to finish second bettering his former career-best toss of 188-1, set at the NCAA East Regional on May 29, 2015.
Establishing a new school record in the triple jump for the second-consecutive week was redshirt junior Mike Ohiembor (Dayton, Ohio). He jumped 51-4.25 (15.65) to place seventh in the competition and edge his previous personal-best mark by more than a foot.
Sophomore Terrell McClain (Youngstown, Ohio) soared 25-6.25 (7.78m) to capture the title in the men's long jump. McClain's effort represented the fourth-longest jump in program history, surpassing his former personal-best mark of 25-2 set at the Ricardo Romo Invitational last Saturday, March 26.
Soaring to a new personal-best height of 13-11.75 (4.26m) to place second in the women's pole vault was redshirt senior Caroline Hasse (Potsdam, Germany). The performance stands as the fourth-highest mark in program history.
The Zips also benefitted from third- and fourth-place efforts, respectively, in the men's high jump from freshmen Curtis Richardson (Blacklick, Ohio) and Cody Stine (Shelby, Ohio). The Akron duo surpassed 6-11 and 6-9, respectively.
Also turning in a top-10 performance in the women's shot put (43-8.75/13.33m) was senior Megan Dornisch (St. Mary's, Pa.).
The Texas Relays concludes on Saturday, April 2, with running events commencing at 9:15 a.m. ET and field events starting at 10:30 a.m. ET.
