Blinova Nominated as MAC Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio- University of Akron sophomore Ariadna Blinova (Riga, Latvia) has been selected as the Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week, announced by the league office Wednesday, March 23.
Blinova started the week off battling Tulane's Kyla Klier to a 3-6, 5-0 win at No. 2 singles on Saturday, Mar. 19. The Riga, Latvia native then earned Akron's lone victory in singles action against Southeastern Louisiana, downing Dalina Dahlmans, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2 singles. Blinova now leads the team in wins with a 13-1 singles dual match record.
"Ari continues to play at a high level and I am happy to see her receive the recognition she deserves," said head coach Brandon Padgett. "The future of Akron tennis is very bright with such a talented group of young players."
The honor is the third in Bilnova's career and the third for a Zip this season. Today's announcement also marks the 22nd time in team history that a UA player has earned the award
The Zips open Mid-American Conference play at Eastern Michigan on Friday, March 25, at 1 p.m. at the Cluadia Wasik Tennis Complex in the league opener for both teams. Akron then hosts Toledo on Sunday, March 27 for a 1 p.m. match at the Outdoor Tennis Facility.
