MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK RELEASE
CLEVELAND, Ohio - University of Akron track and field standouts senior Alexis Cooks (Colorado Springs, Colo.), junior Daziah Green (Canton, Ohio) and sophomore Terrell McClain (Youngstown, Ohio) were tabbed by the Mid-American Conference as the MAC Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
Cooks was named the MAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week after establishing a new school record in the shot put en route to winning the event at the Zips Invitational last Friday, Feb. 19, with a throw of 56-8.75 (17.29m).
The mark represented the fifth-best performance in the country in the event this year. Additionally, Cooks placed first in the women's weight throw with a toss of 68-3 (20.81m).
Green was selected as the MAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week following turning in the second-fastest time (54.41) in program history in the women's 400 meters to finish first at the Zips Invitational. The time was two one-hundredths of a second off of matching Brittany Hocker's school-record time of 54.39 set on Jan. 20, 2006.
McClain garnered MAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors on the strength registering the fourth-best jump (25-0/7.62m) in program history to win the men's long jump at the Zips Invitational.
The accolades are the eighth, ninth and 10th of the year, respectively, for a Zip, and second individually for Cooks in 2016.
The Zips return to action hosting the MAC Track and Field Championship this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26-27, at the Stile Athletics Field House.
