Women's Tennis Hits the Road for a Pair of Matches

AKRON, Ohio — The University of Akron women's tennis team takes to the road this weekend for two non-conference matches. On Friday, Feb. 12, the Zips visit Milwaukee at 6 p.m. before traveling to Illinois-Chicago on Saturday, Feb. 13 for a 12 p.m. matchup against the Flames.
The match against Milwaukee will take place at the North Shore Elite Sports Club in Glendale, WI while Saturday's match will be held at the XS Tennis Center in Chicago, Ill.
The Panthers are riding a three-match winning streak and stand at 3-2 overall after defeating Chicago and Cardinal Stritch this past weekend. Friday's match will mark the third meeting between the two teams as Akron leads the series, 2-0. The Zips took a 6-1 win over the Panthers on Mar. 26, 2013 before claiming a close 4-3 victory at Milwaukee last season.
Illinois-Chicago has posted two victories over MAC opponents Bowling Green and Toledo for a 2-1 mark on the season. Akron holds a 4-1 all-time record versus the Flames, most recently capturing a 7-0 shutout of UIC on Mar. 27, 2013.
During last weekend's action, Akron (4-1) defeated Wright State, 6-1, on the road before falling to West Virginia, 5-2, at home. The Zips swept all six singles matches against the Raiders. Against WVU, UA was swept in doubles action while claiming two victories in singles play. Sophomore Ariadna Blinova (Riga, Latvia) battled West Virginia's Hailey Barrett to a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (4) win in No. 1 singles. At No. 6 singles, freshman Luisa Echeverry claimed a 6-2, 6-2 triumph against Yvon Martinez.
Akron returns home on Saturday, Feb. 20 for a doubleheader with Valparaiso and Morgan State at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
