Pair of school records highlight Zips' efforts at Campbell/Wright Invitational

AKRON, Ohio – Senior Alexis Cooks (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and redshirt sophomore Weronika Gaudyn (Kracow, Poland) each registered school-record marks to spark the efforts of the Akron track and field team on the final day of the Campbell/Wright Invitational on Saturday, May 9, at the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex.
The Zips garnered 16 first-place performances during the two-day meet.
Winning the women's triple jump with a school-record leap of 41-2.25 was Gaudyn.
A week after setting the school record in the women's shot put at the Longhorn Invitational (May 2), Cooks bettered her own record collecting a mark of 53-7.50 to finish second.
Posting the third-best effort in school history, 20-1, to win the long jump was redshirt sophomore Ana Martin-Sacristan (Valencia, Spain).
Sophomore Phil Jagers (Solon, Ohio) turned in the fourth-longest throw in the men's discus, 181-3, to finish second.
In women's action, the Zips received first-place performances from sophomore Daziah Green (Canton, Ohio) in the 200 meters (23.98), redshirt freshman Molly Lalonde (Grove City, Ohio) in the 3,000 meters (10:58.53), senior Skyler Willis (Cincinnati, Ohio) in the 100-meter hurdles (13.74), freshman Jackie Siefring (Covington, Ohio) in the 400-meter hurdles (59.24), senior Claudia Garcia Jou (Barcelona, Spain) in the high jump (5-10.75), Martin-Sacristan in the long jump (20-1), Gaudyn in the triple jump (41-2.25) and the 4x100 relay squad of sophomore Daniella Johnson (Gahanna, Ohio), Green, Martin-Sacristan and senior Rachel Christian (Columbus, Ohio) in 46.12.
In the men's competition, Akron collected first-place efforts from sophomore Miles Baldwin (Cincinnati, Ohio) in the 200 meters (21.24), redshirt sophomore Sean Poholski (Barberton, Ohio) in the 800 meters (1:53.46), redshirt sophomore Aaron Howkins (Stow, Ohio) in the 1,500 meters (3:54.46), sophomore Dan Zupan (Berea, Ohio) in the 3,000 meters (8:45.82), senior Kyle Walker (Cincinnati, Ohio) in the 110-meter hurdles (14.17), senior Bryce Lemon (New Brighton, Pa.) in the javelin (208-4), freshman Terrell McClain (Youngstown, Ohio) in the long jump (24-5) and the 4x400 relay team of sophomore Clayton Murphy (New Paris, Ohio), redshirt sophomore Mike Ohiembor (Dayton, Ohio), freshman Garrett Crichlow (Twinsburg, Ohio) and Poholski in 3:18.02.
Throughout the meet on Saturday, the Zips honored seniors Christian, John Dahlstrand (Erie, Pa.), Jess Delic (Cresson, Pa.), Garcia-Jou, Gabriel Genovesi (Mequon, Wis.), Lemon, Claire Lucas (Sagamore Hills, Ohio), Dylan Papp (Green, Ohio), Gabriela Szkolnicka (Zgorzelec, Poland), Walker, Iyisha Weaver (Philadelphia, Pa.), Kayla Whitlow (Euclid, Ohio), D.J. Williamson (Warren, Ohio) and Willis during their final home meet as Zips.
Akron will look to capture the Mid-American Conference Championship as the Zips open competition at the three-day meet in Muncie, Ind., on Thursday, May 14.
