CHARDON, Ohio – The Akron men's golf team closed day one of the 2015 Mid-American Conference Championship in ninth place on Friday at the par-72, 7,245-yard Mayfield Sand Ridge Club – Sand Ridge Campus.
The Zips posted rounds of 16-over 304 and 14-over 302 on the day to finish with a tally of 606 (+30). Miami (Ohio) leads the field by eight strokes with a two-round score of 576 (E).
Yann Pfeiffer led they way for Akron, closing play in 19th place with a score of 149 (+5). He posted rounds of 74 (+2) and 75 (+3) on the day.
George Baylis sits one shot behind Pfeiffer in a tie for 20th place (150, +6). Baylis posted back-to-back rounds of 3-over 75 on day one.
Louis Birchall carded back-to-back rounds of 76 (+4) on the day and is tied for 25th place with two rounds to play (152, +8).
J.B. Williams opened the championship event with a round of 7-over 79 before carding a 4-over 76 in the afternoon. He will open play on Saturday in a tie for 37th place (155, +11).
Ryan Harris rounded out the scoring-five in a tie for 43rd place with a 36-hole tally of 158 (+14). He posted scores of 9-over 81 and 5-over 77 on Friday.
Play will resume on Saturday, with tee times set to begin at 11 a.m. ET. Fans can follow all the action via Golfstat Live Scoring.
