Men's Golf Closes Gary Koch Invitational in a Tie for 12th Place

GASTONIA, N.C. – The Akron men's golf team closed the Gary Koch Invitational in a tie for 12th place on Tuesday at the par-72, 7,042-yard Gaston Country Club in Gastonia, N.C.
The Zips posted a round of 294, tied for the squad's second-lowest round of the spring season, to finish tied with Charleston Southern with a score of 898 (+34). Top-ranked Florida State won the event by 10 shots with a score of 842 (-22).
Ryan Harris posted his second top-25 finish of the spring, finishing tied for 23rd place with a 54-hole score of 218 (+2). He fired a 1-under 71 on Tuesday, his fifth round of par or better in the last 11 rounds.
Louis Birchall rebounded from a tough second round to post an even-par 72, closing play in a tie for 60th place with a three-round score of 228 (+12).
Yann Pfeiffer and Zach Gollwitzer finished tied for 65th place with identical scores of 230 (+14). Pfeiffer finished the day with a round of 76 (+4) while Gollwitzer carded a 5-over 77.
George Baylis rounded out the scoring-five in 73rd place (235, +19). He posted a 3-over 75 to close the event.
The Zips will have a quick turnaround, heading to Kannapolis, N.C., on Saturday for the Irish Creek Intercollegiate. The event will be the final tune-up for Akron prior to next month's Mid-American Conference Championship.
