Jake Kretzer and Reggie McAdams Named Academic All-MAC

CLEVELAND – Junior wings Jake Kretzer and Reggie McAdams have been named to the Mid-American Conference Academic All-MAC Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
The honor is the second for McAdams, who earned Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention honors during the 2013-14 season. The award is the first academic accolade for Kretzer.
Kretzer appeared in 34-of-35 games for the Zips and made 12 starts this season. He finished his junior campaign 5.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 39.9 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from long range and 91.4 percent at the free throw line.
McAdams appeared in all 35 games, making 10 starts this season. He averaged a career-high 7.0 points per game. He finished sixth in the MAC in 3-point shooting percentage (.411) and tied for 13th in 3-pointers made per game (1.9). He also shot 47.2 percent from long range in league play, good for second in the conference. The highlight of his season as his 31-point performance against Central Michigan on Jan. 17, becoming the first Zip in 265 games to crack the 30-point mark in a contest His 31 points vs. CMU tied for the 11th-highest individual performance in the MAC this season and earned him Zips Student-Athlete of the Week honors.
Kretzer and McAdams helped the Zips break the school record for 3-pointers made in a season (328), as well as finishing sixth in the nation in 3-pointers made and ninth nationally in 3-pointers made per game (9.4). Akron posted a 21-14 record, becoming just the fifth program to win at least 21 games in each of the last 10 seasons (Duke, Gonzaga, Kansas and Ohio State).
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. A total of 18 student-athletes from nine league programs were honored.
