Exhibition showdown versus Louisville awaits Akron

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron men's soccer team is set to hit the halfway point of its spring exhibition campaign this Saturday, April 4, as the Zips visit Louisville for a 5 p.m. tilt.
The Cardinals advanced to the third round of the NCAA Soccer Tournament last season and are led by former Zips' head coach Ken Lolla, who compiled a record of 160-68-25 over 13 seasons from 1993-2005 in the same role with Akron.
The showdown will be a battle between two of the most-successful men's soccer programs over the past eight seasons. Since 2007, Louisville boasts a .673 winning percentage having amassed an overall ledger of 105-45-23 en route to reaching the NCAA Tournaments all eight seasons. Over the same span, the Zips own the nations best winning percentage (.821) on the strength of a 140-23-19 record.
The last regular season match-up between the two schools occurred in the championship game of the 2010 College Cup in Santa Barbara, Calif., a 1-0 victory by the Zips to claim Akron's first-ever NCAA men's soccer title.
Registering a team-best four goals this spring has been Anthony Macchione (Camas, Wash.), while Adi Dakwar (Upper Galili, Israel) owns three tallies of his own.
The Zips then return home for their final three home dates of the spring campaign on April 11, 18 and 26, respectively.
Akron will be challenged by a doubleheader on April 11 as the Zips host Butler and Notre Dame College at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Akron then takes to the field for a pair of contests against Sigma FC, a Canadian soccer academy based in Toronto, Ontario, which competes in Leauge1 Ontario, on April 18.
Akron closes out its exhibition campaign hosting VCU for a pair of games on April 26 at 5 and 7 p.m.
All spring exhibition contests at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field are open to the public and free of charge.
