KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The Akron men's golf team closed day one of the 2015 Irish Creek Intercollegiate in 12th place on Saturday at the par-71, 7,099-yard Club at Irish Creek.
The Zips carded rounds of 8-over 292 and 10-over 294 to end the day with a 36-hole score of 586 (+18). No. 24 North Florida leads the field by two shots with a score of 561 (-7).
Yann Pfeiffer led the way for Akron, firing rounds of 1-under 70 and 2-over 73 to finish the day in a tie for 19th place (143, +1).
Louis Birchall is one shot outside the top 25, finishing the day in a tie for 27th place (145, +3). He posted rounds of 2-over 73 and 1-over 72 on the day.
J.B. Williams carded back-to-back rounds of 3-over 74 and will open Sunday's final round in a tie for 47th place with a score of 148 (+6).
George Baylis ended the day in a tie for 59th place (150, +8), posting identical rounds of 4-over 75.
Ryan Harris rounded out the scoring-five in a tie for 73rd place with a score of 154 (+12). He carded back-to-back rounds of 6-over 77.
