Men's Golf Opens 2015 Spring Slate at 2015 Tiger Invitational

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron men's golf team opens its 2015 spring schedule on Sunday when it travels to Opelika, Ala., for the 2015 Tiger Invitational Presented by Jason Dufner on the par-72, 7,149-yard Grand National Lake Course.
The event is the first of three tournaments in March for the Zips and the first for Akron since concluding the fall slate on October 21.
The Zips will face a challenging field, highlighted by tournament-host and 14th-ranked Auburn. In all, Akron will face 11 GolfStat Top-100 teams, including No. 40 Troy, No. 45 Mississippi, No. 46 Tennessee-Chattanooga, No. 62 North Carolina-Greensboro, No. 71 South Alabama, No. 72 Memphis, No. 73 VCU, No. 74 Mercer, No. 83 Santa Clara and No. 85 Georgia State. The rest of the 16-team field includes Jacksonville State, Kansas State, Mississippi State and Tulsa.
Play will begin on Sunday with tee times set to begin at 8:45 a.m. ET from the first and tenth tees. The second round is set for Monday while the final round is slated for Tuesday, with tee times set for 8:45 a.m. for both rounds. Fans can follow all three rounds via GolfStat Live Scoring.
The Zips concluded the fall season at the Pinetree Intercollegiate on October 21, finishing the event in eighth place. Three Zips finished inside the top 25, including J.B. Williams, Louis Birchall and George Baylis.
In all, Akron posted two top-10 finishes in the fall, including a fifth-place finish at The Firestone Invitational on October 7.
Four Zips posted at least one top-25 finish, with Birchall's runner-up performance at the Firestone Invitational earning him Mid-American Conference Golfer of the week.
