Women's Tennis Falls at Temple, 5-2

PHILADELPHIA — The University of Akron women's tennis fell to Temple, 5-2, on Saturday evening at the Upper Dublin Sports Center.
The Zips fell to 7-6 overall, while the Owls improved to 10-3 overall.
"Tough loss to a talented team today," head coach Brandon Padgett said. "We continue to make strides, but we still haven't seen the team come together and all play at a high level simultaneously."
In doubles action, junior Martina Zerbola (Neuquen, Argentina) and freshman Sophia Geier (Burgebrach, Germany) defeated Alina Abdurakhimova and Yana Khon, 6-2, at the No. 1 spot. The Owls came back to win the other two doubles matches to claim the team point.
In singles action, Akron won at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. Freshman Ariadna Blinova (Riga, Latvia) defeated Mariana Bedon, 6-2, 6-1. Geier claimed a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (6) win over Minami Okajima in the final match.
Akron has a 13-day break before opening Mid-American Conference play with Eastern Michigan on Friday, March 20 at 1 p.m. at the LaTuchie Tennis Center.
