GREENVILLE, S.C. – George Baylis missed his career-low round by one stroke in helping the Akron men's golf team to a tie for 10th place on Sunday at the 46th Annual Furman Intercollegiate.
Baylis, who recorded his career-low round of 71 on March 15, posted an even-par 72 to climb 19 spots into a tie for 44th place (224, +8).
As a team, the Zips posted a round of 298 (+10) to close play tied with Davidson with a 54-hole score of 892 (+28).
No. 73 Georgia State, leading by five shots at the start of play, pulled away from the field to post a 16-shot victory with a three-day tally of 858 (-6).
Yann Pfeiffer ended play in a tie for 30th place with a score of 221 (+5) after carding a 4-over 76 on Sunday. Ryan Harris closed the day two shots behind Pfeiffer in a tie for 37th place (223, +7). Harris fired a 3-over 75.
Louis Birchall concluded the weekend tied with Baylis and eight others in 44th place a with 54-hole score of 224 (+8). Birchall ended his round with a score of 75 (+3).
Zach Gollwitzer rounded out the scoring-five in a tie for 112th place (248, +32) after shooting a 7-over 79.
The Zips return to action on April 6 when they travel to Gastonia, N.C., for the Gary Koch Invitational.
