OPELIKA, Ala. – The Akron men's golf team posted its best round of the week, carding a 6-over 294 to finish in 14th place at the 2015 Tiger Invitational Presented by Jason Dufner on Tuesday.
Playing in their first event of the spring, the Zips showed improvement each round, including a six-shot improvement from rounds two and three. Akron finished with a three-round score of 905 (+41). No. 14 Auburn pulled away from the field to win by 28 shots with a 54-hole score of 839 (-25).
Ryan Harris led the way for the Zips, posting a top-25 finish thanks to consecutive rounds of even-par 72 on Monday and Tuesday. He finished tied for 25th with a three-day tally of 220 (+4).
Yann Pfeiffer and Louis Birchall fired rounds of 1-over 73 on Tuesday to finish tied for 39th place (224, +8) and tied for 50th (228, +12), respectfully.
George Baylis ended the day in 79th place after his round of 5-over 77. He closed play with a three-round total of 234 (+18).
Zach Gollwitzer rounded out the squad in 84th place, posting a third-round score of 76 (+4) to end the invitational with a total score of 239 (+23).
The Zips will only have five days off before returning to action on March 15 at the Talis Park Challenge in Naples, Fla.
