Student Attendance vs. Toledo: 687
AKRON, Ohio – On the heels of the largest student crowd during his tenure at the helm of The University of Akron's men's basketball program, head coach Keith Dambrot announced on Monday a new Student Appreciation promotion for the final three home games of the regular season.
Starting with Wednesday's contest vs. Toledo (7 p.m. ET), for every home game that the student attendance reaches 800 or more, UA students at the game will receive $5.00 on their Zip Card for attending that contest. Students attending all three home games will receive an additional $5.00 bonus, regardless how many students attend those games, for a potential total of $20.00.
"Akron students have helped our program make the JAR one of the toughest places to play in the MAC," Dambrot said. "This Student Appreciation program is just one way for us to show our appreciation for everything they do. We need our students out, in force, at our final three home games to help us win our third MAC regular season title in the last four seasons."
The program is open to all students with a valid Zip Card. Students must enter through the student pass gate, located at the northwest corner of James A. Rhodes Arena, and swipe their Zip Card.
The Student Appreciation program comes following the largest student turnout in the Keith Dambrot era (since 2004-05). Over 1,400 students jammed the JAR to see the Zips down neighborhood rival Kent State, 61-52, on Feb. 10.
Akron is in the middle of a battle for its third Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship in the last four seasons.
The Zips also play host to Miami (Ohio) on Saturday, Feb. 21, as part of a doubleheader with the women's basketball team. Tip off for that game is set for 7:30 p.m. ET following the 5 p.m. women's start vs. Ohio.
Akron will close out its home schedule on Friday, Feb. 27, when Ohio visits at 8 p.m. ET on ESPNU. Akron will honor seniors Deji Ibitayo and Nyles Evans prior to the contest against the Bobcats.
