Pfeiffer Places in Top 5, Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at ODU/OBX Intercollegiate

POWELLS POINT, N.C. – Junior Yann Pfeiffer (Saint-Nom-la-Breteche, France) recorded his best finish as a Zip as the University of Akron men's golf team wrapped up the fall season with a fifth place finish at the Outer Banks Intercollegiate hosted by Old Dominion University. The Zips ended the 54-hole event at the par 71, 6,550-yard Kilmarlic Golf Club with an 868 (+16) team total.
During Tuesday's final round, Pfeiffer climbed five more spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for fifth overall. Pfeiffer ended Sunday's round ranked 15th (70, -1) and moved to 10th by the end of Monday's 18 holes (72, +1), finishing with a two-day even-par 142. He fired a final round 70 (-1) to lead the Zips' tournament scoring with a season-best 1-under par 212. In addition, Pfeiffer's pair of 70's marks the fourth time in his Akron career he achieved his best 18-hole round.
Sophomore George Baylis (Ascot, England) advanced on the leaderboard. He went from being ranked 30th overall after two rounds, finishing with a 14th-best 215 (+2) 54-hole total. Baylis registered Akron's lowest final round score of 2-under par 69. Senior Ryan Harris (Carlisle, Mass.) added a 220 (+7) score while redshirt freshman Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) and junior J.B. Williams (Danville, Ky.) rounded out the scoring with 223 (+10) and 225 (+12), respectively.
"I'm very proud of our guys this fall," head coach David Trainor said. "Congratulations to Yann Pfeiffer for his Top 5 finish. He played well all three rounds. Some of our guys didn't have their A games this week, but they fought through it. Overall, it was a great tournament for us."
No. 83 Campbell held on to win the 18-team field event, carding an 841 (-11) team score. In addition, Campbell's Craig Hornberger earned medalist honors (201, -12) while his teammate, Gaston Bertinotti, finished tied for runner-up honors with Drexel's Christopher Crawford (208, -5).
The ODU/OBX Intercollegiate concludes the Zips' fall season. Akron will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 22-23 in Hilton Head Island, S.C. for the Wexford Intercollegiate Wexford Golf Course.
