PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – After rain delayed the start of round two for nearly six hours, the University of Akron men's golf team moved into a tie for ninth place at the Golfweek Program Challenge on Monday.
The Zips posted a round of 1-under 287 on the day to finish even with Northern Iowa with a 36-hole score of 577 (+1). Jacksonville leads the field by two strokes with a two-day score of 553 (-23).
Harry Whittle posted the low round of the day for Akron, firing a career-low 69 (-3) to climb 18 spots into a tie for 19th place (142, -2). He is tied with three other players, including J.B. Williams, who carded a 1-over 73 on Monday.
Zach Gollwitzer followed his opening-round 73 (+1) with an even-par 72 and is tied for 32nd place (145, +1).
Ryan Harris rebounded from his 4-over 76 to post a 1-over 73. He finished the round tied for 48th place with a 36-hole tally of 149 (+5).
Louis Birchall rounded out the scoring-five in a tie for 54th place with a score of 151 (+7). He posted a round of 4-over 76 on Monday.
The Zips conclude the event on Tuesday, with tee times set to begin at 7:40 a.m. ET from the 10th tee. Fans can follow the final round via Golfstat Live Scoring.
