ZIONSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Akron men's golf team concluded the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in 13th place on Sunday at the par-71, 7,155-yard Wolf Run Golf Club.
After thunderstorms halted play on Saturday, the Zips and the rest of the field concluded the second round on Sunday morning before completing the final 18 holes.
Akron posted a score of 308 (+24) in round two while carding a final-round 314 (+30) to finish with a 54-hole tally of 931 (+79). Seventh-ranked Illinois pulled away from the field to post a 30-stroke win with a score of 859 (+7).
Louis Birchall led the way for the Zips, posting scores of 76 (+5) and 79 (+8) to finish tied for 34th place (231, +18). Yann Pfeiffer, making his Zips' debut, finished in a tie for 43rd place (232, +19). Pfeiffer finished the weekend with rounds of 78 (+7) and 76 (+5).
George Baylis, playing in his first-collegiate event, opened the morning with a round of 79 (+8) before posting a 6-over 77 to finish in a tie for 58th place (235, +22).
J.B. Williams struggled on the day, carding back-to-back rounds of 11-over 82. He finished in 69th place with a three-round score of 241 (+28).
Ryan Harris rounded out the scoring-five in a tie for 71st place (243, +30). He ended the weekend with rounds of 75 (+4) and 90 (+19).
The Zips will have two weeks off before playing host to The Firestone Invitational on October 6-7 at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
