AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips men's golf team will travel to Carmel, Ind., this weekend for the 2014 Mid-American Conference Men's Golf Championship at the par-72, 7,073-yard Prairie View Golf Club.
The event will feature 72 holes over three days, with rounds one and two set for Friday. The Zips will open play on the first tee beginning at 8:32 a.m. ET. UA is set to start the second round, also at the first tee, at 1:02 p.m. Rounds three and four are set for Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Akron is coming off a strong finish at the season-ending NYX Hoosier Invitational on April 13. The Zips, led by top-10 finishes by Ryan Harris and Louis Birchall, finished in third place at the event. Harris and Birchall ended the event in a tie for ninth place. Charlie Bull finished tied for 14th place while J.B. Williams rounded out the four Zips inside the top-20, closing play in a tie for 19th.
The Zips look to improve on a fourth-place finish at last year's MAC Championship. UA returns three of the five players that played in last year's event, including Bull (3rd), Birchall (t-14th) and Harris (39th).
Also on the line will be a point in the PNC Wagon Wheel Challenge. Akron and Kent State are currently tied in the standings with 5.5 points each, with four points on the line in the challenge (men's golf, baseball, men's and women's outdoor track and field).
