Track Completes Dual-Meet Sweep At Northeast Ohio Quad

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's and women's track & field teams completed the sweep of Ashland, Kent State and Youngstown State at the Northeast Ohio Quad Saturday afternoon at Lee R. Jackson Track & Field Complex.
With just the discus and shot put yet to be contested, the Zips, who were leading in both genders to start the day, did what they needed to do to hold on for the victory. The UA men defeated Ashland 117-69, Kent State 97-84 and Youngstown State 123-50 in dual-meet scoring while the Zips women defeated Ashland 114-73, Kent State 110-67 and Youngstown State 121-57.
Alexis Cooks was the big contributor on the women's side. The junior placed runner-up in both events Saturday with throws of 48-03.50 in the shot put and 167-06 in the discus. Freshman Phil Jagers was the top finisher from the men's team, earning runner-up honors in the discus with a top mark of 166-01.
The Zips will next head to the All-Ohio Track & Field Championships, hosted by the University of Cincinnati. The two-day meet will run from Apr. 11-12 at Getler Stadium.
