BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Akron Zips carried the momentum of a strong second round into Sunday, posting the top round of the day to finish in third place at the NYX Hoosier Invitational.
The Zips' round of 1-over 285 tied Indiana for the top round of the day as Akron finished with a 54-hole score of 867 (+15). The Hoosiers won the event with a three-round tally of 853 (+1).
Four Zips finished inside the top-20, led by Ryan Harris and Louis Birchall, who ended the day in a tie for ninth place (216, +3). Harris fired a 1-under 70 while Birchall carded an even-par 71 on Sunday.
Charlie Bull finished tied for 14th place with a three-round tally of 4-over 217 following a round of 1-over 72. J.B. Williams rounded out the four Zips inside the top-20, closing play in a tie for 19th place (220, +7). Williams posted a final-round 72 (+1).
Zach Gollwitzer concluded the day in a tie for 52nd place (227, +14). He posted a round of 8-over 79 on the day.
The Zips will have a couple of weeks off before traveling to Carmel, Ind., for the 2014 Mid-American Conference Championship, which are set for May 1-3.
